Starting My Second Year in Littleton

There's been much positive activity in my areas of responsibility in the Little School Department with more to come during the upcoming year.

Our food service program made great strides this past year under the guidance of our new Director/Chef Jason Cohen. Participation by both students and staff is up significantly. Both groups have been raving about the quality and variety of offerings. He's planning some additional enhancements this year which I'm sure will be well received.

I'm pleased to announce that we've renewed our regular education bus contract with First Student Inc. and it will continue to be supervised in Littleton by Helen Hamm. A noticeable change will be the use of a new fleet of transit style "snub nose" buses starting in a few weeks. They can accommodate more students and have a great safety record. They have a much different braking system which all the drivers got licensed to use over the summer.

Custodial work and maintenance work were finished in time for the arrival of students September 3rd. The major capital project completed over the summer was the installation of a much needed new roof at the Russell Street School. Planning is also underway for the renovation of the Middle School as well as for some essential repairs to the existing facility.

The good working relationship I've enjoyed with other Town departments since arriving has gotten even better. Thanks to all for your assistance and for making me feel like a part of the team. One new very welcomed addition this year was the appointment of Matt Pinard as the School Resource Officer. His office is at the High School and he's always more than willing to help us with concerns and problems.

I reread the article I wrote for the paper just after starting a year ago where I stated " I didn't regard this as any type of stepping stone and that I have every intention of making a long term commitment". My experience over the past year has reinforced this plan and I look forward to making many positive contributions to the Littleton Public Schools in the future.
